You are insensitive and greedy for going after Ayensuano seat. NDC youth blast the party’s current national deputy youth organizer , Ruth Seddoh

🖇️story by; Yakubu Adams Democracy is indeed the ultimate positive revolution because it gives every individual of adult suffrage the power to change, control, and direct duty bearers for the common good of the people. But in every multi-party democracy, individual aspirations must always be in sync with their ideological party identity, the very platform on which those individuals would want to stand and advance their political growth  The NDC as a political party must not become just a tool for party executives in actualizing just their dreams, rather, party executives must remain religious to their contracts and promises upon which they were elected to serve. Barely few weeks ago, Ruth Seddoh told the over one thousand party delegates drawn from the 275 constituencies across the country that they should elect her as a deputy national youth organizer of the party, in order to work for the party and deliver the youth votes  Ten (10) candidates were standing up f

Building 94 hospitals in 1 year practically unrealistic – Prof. Bokpin

Image
Economist and Professor of Finance at the University of Ghana Business School has stated that government’s promise to construct 94 new hospitals within a year is impossible. Godfred Alufar Bokpin explained that the reeling effect of Covid-19 on the economy will make this the materialization of this plan very difficult. “Are we in the position to absorb such a massive cost? Particularly from one sector, health? During the pandemic, we were living from hand to mouth and whatever we were collecting by way of tax revenue was essentially just wages and interest payments,” he told Daniel Dadzie on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Monday. Prof. Bokpin added that with the “international capital market practically on hold, this is going to be very difficult.” President Nana Akufo-Addo in his 8th national address to the nation on measure his government is taking to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic said 88 district and 6 regional hospitals would be constructed within a year. But the Eco

🇬🇭Ghana should expect an increase in coronavirus cases.

Image
A Global Health Expert has predicted an increase in Ghana’s coronavirus cases after President Akufo-Addo lifted a three-week partial lockdown which was put in place to curb the spread of the disease. Dr John Amuasi, who is a lecturer at the Global Health Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), says President Akufo-Addo’s decision is a mistake because the country does not have the kind of data needed to be able to measure an infection rate. Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Dr Amuasi, who is also with the KNUST Centre for Collaborative Research said “there surely, based on the decision we have taken, will be more cases of coronavirus and coronavirus is going to spread faster. “What I cannot determine is what the impact of that spreading or increase in infection will be,” he added. President Akufo-Addo in his 7th address to the nation since the outbreak of the coronavirus, announced the lifting of a partial lockdown that affected Acc

Can Trusting Your Gut be Good for Business?

Image
There are many stories out there of entrepreneurs having the famous ‘aha!’ moment when they finally realise how to solve a big problem, or what their successful product will be, or any other pivotal decision that arrives as if by magic. These intuitions have been studied by psychologists and it appears there may be reason to trust these epiphanies after all. Our minds are constantly seeking to recognise patterns and we do this consciously when we analyse data and recollect information. Our mind is also doing this on a subconscious level with a much wider range of information which is not currently even on our mind yet our brain is still able to access it. It is this subconscious level of pattern recognition that researchers believe is responsible for these eureka moments. This doesn’t mean that every idea that pops in to your head is a good idea of course. It is vital that you gain experience and absorb information for your mind to work with and to create connections within, oth

Kwaku Asante writes: Coronavirus and the regrets of a final year student; the goodbyes & ‘for-the-lasts’ that won’t happen

@Kwaku Asante-Bismark,a UG Student and Broadcast Journalist/Producer at Radio Univers 105.7FM T he class is at 9:30 am and I’d be up by 8 am to prep. But, I was very tired the night before and even though I had alarms on, I woke up at 9:10am. The interesting thing was I had a group presentation that morning so I had to be early. I dashed into the washroom and cleaned up. It was a Human Rights class on a Friday morning. I went in, did our presentation with other colleagues – Cindy and Kojo, two new friends I had by virtue of that group. I knew we had aced the presentation but I didn’t know that was potentially going to be the last class or last time to set foot in JQB as a ‘student’ of the University of Ghana (UG). I had plans for the semester, I wanted to blog all my experiences and live life well. I live with the regrets of not living the last moments of SHS properly; occasionally I get flashbacks and they are enough to get me emotional. I have once jokingly said that maybe

I'm ready to smoke peace pipe with Shatta Wale on one condition

Image
Rapper Sarkodie has told Dentaa Amoateng on the Dentaa Show that he’s ready to call a truce and smoke the peace pipe with his former buddy Shatta Wale only if it can be done privately with no cameras around.  The feud between the pair was reignited after Sarkodie dropped his Subzero song- a track which was interpreted as a diss song to Shatta Wale, Ball J and Asem. ‘Subzero’ plunged social media into a state of excitement as pundits and music lovers dissected the message in the song. Shatta Wale shot back with verbal attacks on his traditional Facebook Live platform, which further deteriorated their relationship. However, Sarkodie suggested he has nothing personal against the Dancehall act and will make peace with him. “I don’t do the showbiz thing. I will be willing to settle our differences if it is not for the cameras. I will settle things with Shatta Wale if only it is real, ” the rapper told Dentaa.

David Quaye writes: Combating COVID-19- the indiscipline Ghanaian approach.

David Quaye,UG POSSA President  Though times they say do not last; the truth of the matte r however is that, tough times may last or otherwise based on the concerted efforts in place to address the circumstance at hand. Again conventional wisdom has it that, when you see your neighbor's beard in flames, you donot sit aloof; instead, you fetch water next to your beard to deal with any possible fire that may attempt to burn yours. In the wake of this deadly pandemic (COVID-19) crippling human existence, it’s rather sad to note how Ghana is treating the issue. While other countries were putting in place sophisticated measures to counter and contain the extent of the spread, no proper alternatives were premeditated to tackle this global pandemic should we be hit in Ghana. Despite countries placing ban on travels, our borders were heavens gate as we kept importing cases. Away from our tortoise-paced efforts to deal with the catastrophe, there has been a hike in the number o

Ken Ofori-Atta: ‘What does an African finance minister do now?’

Ken Ofori-Atta: ‘What does an African finance minister do now?’ It’s 5am and I stir. My stomach feels cramped. I have slept no more than four hours. My mind races. The problems cascade through. I hear the birds and do my meditation. My wife Angie and I are in the middle of an Easter study on the Book of Daniel, and I can’t help but think of the writing on the wall: “mene mene tekel upharsin.” Have we been weighed and found wanting? But I am optimistic there will be a few who will stand up and become modern-day martyrs, not only to defeat this pandemic but to create a new era. On our minds is the question of surgical and N95 masks for healthcare professionals. I make two calls to China to speak to our ambassador about ventilators, and another to Israel to a fellow from the Aspen Global Leadership Network about face masks, gloves and other forms of protection, and discuss a charter of a plane to bring these items to Ghana. Then a follow-up call to Vera Songwe, head of the UN Ec
