Vetting of UGSRC aspirants begins tonight

Mr Samuel Amos Ofosu (Nana B) after donating two boxes of Don Simon, advised the students in attendance, particularly Muslims, to observe the genuine essence of Islam by celebrating Eid-ul-Adha in moderation this year.  Islam, he claims, stands for peace. LEGON NAADU JOINS UG MUSLIMS IN CELEBRATING EID UL-ADHA

UGSRC aspirant  Naadu  Stephanie Antwi  joined the Muslim community leadership on the University of Ghana campus to celebrate Eid ul-adha, which  is celebrated just over two months later, at the same time when many Muslims perform the Hajj Pilgrimage   In her address to the Islamic community, she reminded them that the Ramadan feast was holy, and that they should strive to use it to promote peaceful coexistence.  She asked the Muslim Ummah on campus to remember her in their prayers and to send her guidance and wisdom as her journey with the UGSRC begins. Naadu  Stephanie Antwi  also used the occasion to urge students to constantly follow the various safety protocols in order to aid in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic on campus and throughout the country.  Mr. Lukeman, President of the Ghana Muslim Students Association-UG, expressed gratitude to Miss Naadu  Stephanie Antwi  and her team for the donations. It's another year in student politics, and students with political aspirations are taking the step to run for office. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, majority of tertiary institutions in the country had problems in conducting elections for students to fill various post in the SRC for the 2019/2020 academic year .The Premier University, University of Ghana, was no exception. The current SRC Electoral Commissioner, Henry Ackon, released the 2021/2022 SRC Executive applications earlier this month for students who will be running for executive posts.  As of July 6, 2021, fifteen students from the University of Ghana had indicated their desire to run for UGSRC Executive posts.  Ten of the fifteen were running for the office of President, three for Secretary, and two for Treasurer. Vandal Inkoom wins Commonwealth Hall JCR Presidential Race

                đŸ–‡Story by: Kengel Yeboah Anim Paul Inkoom, a resident of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, has won the Commonwealth Hall JCR Presidential Election according to the provisional results announced by the Electoral Commission on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. According to the total provisional results of both first and second cohort announced by the EC, Vandal Inkoom obtained 468 votes,Francis Kusi had 205 votes and  Jonas Abbey-Thomson also had 75 votes. Voter turnout was high, and no violent incidents that could have harmed the voting process were reported. Gati Bright as Vice President, Nyarko Odei Daniel as Treasurer, and  Boakye Kofi as Secretary are the other candidates who won in both the first and second round.

ARTHUR PRINCE WINS LEGON HALL JCR ELECTION

         đŸ–‡Story by: Kengel Yeboah Arthur Prince, a resident of the University of Ghana's Legon Hall, was the winner of the Legon Hall JCR Presidential Election held on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Despite the fact that the Electoral Commissioner has not yet proclaimed the victors, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Janet Twumasi of Legon Hall, praised election workers on running the polls smoothly and honestly despite online problems. The election, which was eagerly anticipated, saw approximately 1,450 residents of the hall turn out to vote. A swarm of supporters in the hall embraced the announcement with chanting and dancing. Other candidates who won the election were, Mr Gilbert Boahen as Vice President ,Senam as Organising Secretary and Mr. Antwi Wiafe as Sports Secretary and Sasu as Treasurer  At the end of the poll,Arthur Prince won the election with 4 Votes difference According to the Provisional results, Prince Arthur had    642 Samuel Tiaku Opoku had 638 Raphael Appi

                                        đŸ–‡Story by: Kengel Yeboah The University of Ghana Students Representative Council’s Electoral Commission (EC) has opened nominations for the 2021/2022 academic year SRC elections. The nominations will be opened from Friday 9th July,2021 to 19th July,2021, with a nomination cost of Ghc600 for the office of the President, GHc200 for the office of the General Secretary and GHc200 for the office of Treasurer The EC declared that, before picking up nomination form, individuals vying the Presidential Post must choose properly their Vice President  These filing fees shall be paid in person to the commissioner of the elections  Nomination forms must be obtained and submitted to  the Chairperson of the Commission, who serves as the Returning Officer for the Election by the candidates.    Source:

On 29 June 2021, in the run-up to the 2021/2022 academic year, the Electoral Commission of the University of Ghana SRC sent a communication raising awareness about the elections of 2021. Although the EC has not shown clearly how the elections will be held, and whether they will be online or face to face, there are some reports that the polls this year would be held online.
